Why I ship...
Something that I found on DA courtesy of a journal on TheGigglingHyena’s page that apparently is on here but I’ll copypasta it with my own thoughts:
TwiDash
When I started shipping it: I couldn’t honestly say. But when I started watching MLP and enjoying it, I found that I did like Dash and I loved Twilight and somehow started thinking of them as a ship from then.
My thoughts: I guess it was the scene where Twilight met Rainbow Dash in the first episode of series 1 that made me think they were kind of right for each other. Twilight needed to get out and was annoyed by little things, but Dash was shown as more outgoing and bold. You put the two together and I felt it could work. Twilight is a bookish character and very introverted but her friends bring her out of her shell and while she is pracrtical to a fault, this might actually help Dash to simmer down at times and calm the hot-headed pony. At the same time, Dash helps bring out the more adventurous side of the bookish pony and is encouraging of any endeavours, especially out of the library. I tend to picture them as an odd couple, since they seem like opposites, but bringing out the best in each other. And of course, despite Rainbow’s arrogance, she also has a great big soft spot that only Twilight knows how to get to *grin*
Inevitably I have read some… cloppy material and admired the art of those artists who draw sexual TwiDash stuff and the sexual dynamic would be interesting. I believe Twilight would have some hidden depths there. Maybe a trend towards experimentalism since she does read a lot and has possibly seen a few things she would like to try but has been scared to ask. Rainbow is more brave in this regard but my head canon states that she hasn’t really tried very much at the cost of losing time to practise amazing stunt moves. Nevertheless, there’d be some plain vanilla fun times and some other more bolder moves they may employ. And yes, in my cloppy and very NSFW imagination at times, this may extend to some BDSM.
What makes me happy about them: Oh… Just about everything. I love this ship to bits and it will probably stay that way for a while.
What makes me sad about them: Only thing is that people see them as polar opposites and thus believe they’d never have a chance. I’m one of those who would believe that in theory, any ship is possible (as long as consenting adults are involved) and there will always be fanon to give any ship credence. Besides which, no shipping exists in the series. It’s all fanon. So why so many put any ship down puzzles me greatly.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Urf… A few things bother me. Mostly if they are out of character, more than anything. To be honest I am picky about what Twidash fanfics I do read and if I see any OoC business, I hit backspace hard.
Things I look for in fanfic: I look for a few things. Good character dynamic, a plausible way they’d find they do like each other in that way and as my comments above, staying true to character. I will waver on the middle one if need be, since sometimes silly romantic fluff is nice to read too. If it is the cloppy kind of story, again, similar things, but I prefer the naughtier scenes to be as loving as the rest of it. So while I may like a story that has them trying out a new kink, I’d prefer it done with proper respect and still showing the love and such. A BDSM scene for the sake of it does not a good clop story make.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Twilight, I ship her with almost anyone. Twilestia, Twiluna and DiscoLight are firm favourites, but I do also like AppleSpark, TwiPie and so on. In terms of M/F, I did read a nice little story with Caramel and Twilight which was very sweet. And I would also support TwiMac too. For Rainbow Dash, I’m very flexible. Again, almost anyone, but this time maybe not Celestia and Luna, possibly Discord, then AJ, Pinkie, maybe Spitfire… In terms of hetero, definitely Soarin’.
This was fun although I may have thought about it a bit too in depth at points. Still. My favourite ship and most likely always will be.
